{"id":25735,"date":"2024-10-30T10:40:53","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T15:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dharma.org\/?p=25735"},"modified":"2024-11-05T12:57:35","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T17:57:35","slug":"dreamscapesjg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dharma.org\/dreamscapesjg\/","title":{"rendered":"Dreamscapes of the Mind: The Poetry of Joseph Goldstein"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25752\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dharma.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dreamscapes-Graphic-for-WP-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2300\" height=\"1266\" \/><\/h3>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Enjoy Joseph Goldstein&#8217;s Poetry\u2014and Support IMS<\/h4>\n<p id=\"isPasted\">When he was 75 years old, IMS co-founder Joseph Goldstein developed a surprising new passion\u2014writing poetry. \u201cI was traveling with friends in Spain listening to the poetry of Ocean Vuong when a creative channel opened, and poems came tumbling out,\u201d Joseph recalls.<\/p>\n<p>His first attempts at writing poetry began 50 years earlier, when he was in the Peace Corps in Thailand in the mid-1960s. \u201cAlthough I didn\u2019t realize it at the time,\u201d Joseph reflects, \u201cit was the first inklings of the meditative mind\u2014a quality of attention that\u2019s sensitive to things that might normally be overlooked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can be a moment of seeing something new or having a new perception of something very familiar,\u201d he continues. \u201cIn that space of openness and intimacy, new understandings can transform our experience of the world around and within us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joseph\u2019s rediscovery of poetry has filled him with \u201ca newfound appreciation of the creative process being a wonderful aspect of dharma practice. It is precisely those qualities of mindfulness, intimacy, openness, and stillness out of which poetry is born.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year, IMS printed a collection of Joseph\u2019s poetry, titled Dreamscapes of the Mind: Poems and Reflections.
