{"id":272,"date":"2018-07-06T17:45:24","date_gmt":"2018-07-06T17:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web1.dharma.org\/?page_id=272"},"modified":"2018-07-06T17:46:34","modified_gmt":"2018-07-06T17:46:34","slug":"chana-masala","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.dharma.org\/resources\/recipes\/chana-masala\/","title":{"rendered":"Chana Masala"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<h3>Serves 6<\/h3>\n<p>This recipe is spiced very \u2018cool.\u2019 More spices can be added for those who like it hot.<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon safflower oil<br \/>\n1 pound onions \u2013 diced<br \/>\n2 cloves garlic \u2013 minced<br \/>\n1 \u00be tablespoon fresh ginger \u2013 grated<br \/>\n1 jalapeno pepper<br \/>\n1 tablespoon coriander<br \/>\n1 \u00be teaspoon ground cumin<br \/>\n1 pinch cayenne<br \/>\n1 teaspoon turmeric<br \/>\n1 \u00be teaspoon whole cumin seeds<br \/>\n1 \u00be teaspoon paprika<br \/>\n1 teaspoon garam masala<br \/>\n10 oz tomatoes \u2013 diced<br \/>\n\u00bd cup water, plus more to cook chick peas<br \/>\n1 cup dried chick peas \u2013 soaked overnight<br \/>\n\u00bd teaspoon salt<br \/>\n\u00bc cup lemon juice<\/p>\n<h2>Preparation<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Drain chickpeas. Cook in pot with 3 cups of water. Drain when tender.<\/li>\n<li>Saute onions in large pot or dutch oven until soft and translucent. Add garlic, ginger and jalapeno, continuing to saute for a few minutes. Add all the spices. When the mixture starts to brown, add tomatoes, water, lemon juice, salt and chickpeas.<\/li>\n<li>Let mixture simmer, stirring occasionally for 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Taste, and correct seasoning if needed.
